San Diego Superior Court Closed Monday, December 25, 2023 and Monday, January 1, 2024

In observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day statewide holidays, the San Diego Superior Court will close all courtrooms and business offices on Monday, December 25, 2023 and Monday, January 1, 2024.

All courtrooms and business offices will provide normal business hours on the days surrounding the holidays.

The public is urged to visit the Court’s website at sdcourt.ca.gov to handle traffic tickets or obtain court information.

Juvenile Justice Commission Seeks Applicants

The San Diego Superior Court is seeking applicants to serve on the San Diego County Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC). The Commission is a state-mandated, court-appointed citizens’ commission. Its primary purpose is to annually inspect all publicly administered juvenile institutions and any jail lockup within the County that is used for the confinement of any minor for more than 24 hours.

The Honorable Harry L. Powazek recently completed his last day on the San Diego Superior Court bench, ending a 28-year stint as a judicial officer.

After having served as a Superior Court commissioner in Family Court from 1995-2007, Judge Powazek was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to become a Superior Court judge in 2007.

San Diego Superior Court Introduces New Online Exhibit Upload Option for Unlawful Detainer (Landlord/Tenant) Cases

The San Diego Superior Court has launched a new online application to allow litigants in Limited Unlawful Detainer cases (landlord/tenant disputes claiming damages up to $25,000) to upload exhibits remotely.

This technology builds on the previous introduction of an online exhibit upload application for Small Claims cases introduced in October 2021.

San Diego Superior Court Introduces Online Tool to Help People with Infractions Reduce Ticket Costs and Set Up Payment Plans

The San Diego Superior Court has launched the MyCitations program, an online tool developed by the Judicial Council of California. The tool allows people in eligible infraction cases to look up their citation online, answer a series of simple questions, and submit a request to the court for a possible reduction in the amount owed based on their financial situation. Requests for payment plans, more time to pay, or community service in lieu of a fine can also be submitted via MyCitations.

Jury Summons for North County Courthouse

San Diego Superior Court to Expand Postcard Jury Summons throughout San Diego County

August 9, 2023

The San Diego Superior Court will soon expand postcard mailings for jury summons throughout the county. Jurors summoned to the North County Courthouse can look to receive the postcard summons rather than paper mailings beginning later this week with reporting dates for the week of September 15 and beyond.

San Diego Resident to Lead the 2023-2024 San Diego County Civil Grand Jury

Jonathan Vinoskey was selected to serve as the foreperson of the 2023-2024 San Diego County Grand Jury, which started service on July 1, 2023.

Together with 18 other San Diego County residents, he represents the people of San Diego County in a watchdog role investigating governmental agencies and public entities within the county.

Juvenile Court proceedings have several confidentiality requirements, which can be perceived by members of the public as a lack of transparency about the court, its processes, and the role of partner agencies.
